JOKER
+
L-WIZ
TRICKYKID

@ Slakhuset, 21-03, Stockholm

Joker (4AD / Kapsize / Tectonic) [UK]

Born to Grime and adopted by Dubstep, Joker refuses to be tagged although, his soul drenched productions have been described as Jehri Curl Boogie and Wiley stuck in an elevator with Cameo.

He burst onto the Dubstep and Grime scenes in 2008 with the vibrant ‘Grimey Princess’ and ‘Gully Brook Lane’ which were released on Earwax and Plastician’s Terrorhythm imprint respectively. His productions possess a rare duality in that they are both instantly identifiable yet impossible to classify. His musical peers include Rustie, Gemmy and Kode 9, the Hyperdub label boss and recognised tastemaker, identified Joker as one to watch when he named him as his protégée for Mary Anne Hobbs’ hugely seminal follow-up to Dubstep Wars, Generation Bass which was broadcast worldwide on BBC Radio 1. Joker and Nomad’s video can be viewed on Youtube and in testament to the level of interest in this Bristolian talent, continues to be the highest viewed video of the Maida Vale session.

L-WIZ:

15-18th FEB – ALL OUT DUBSTEP PRES: FOREIGN BEGGARS SCANDINAVIAN TOUR!

15th – OSLO – BLÅ

16th – STOCKHOLM – GÖTA KÄLLARE

17th – GOTHENBURGH – RÖDA STEN

18th – COPENHAGEN – VEGA

Foreign Beggars are a critically acclaimed Rap, Grime and Dubstep group based in London, UK.The group consists of MCs Orifice Vulgatron and Metropolis, producer Dag Nabbit and DJ Nonames. Foreign Beggars are renowned for their eclectic and energetic live shows. Currently performing well over a hundred shows a year the group have performed with a number of high profile artists spanning a range of musical genres. Foreign Beggars first three album releases were through Dented Records; a label that is owned by the group and was created to support their own material and a host of UK underground artists

Today the group line up on stage as Orifice Vulgatron, Metropolis and DJ Nonames often with UK Beatbox Champion MC Zani or THePETEBOX. Guest appearances from long time collaborators of the group and Dented recording artists Kyza and Dr Syntax have also become a regular occurrence.

Having successfully changed the face of, UK hip hop in the last decade, Foreign Beggars’ recent output has been a genre-defying blend of their former machinations and speaker-busting, dancefloor rumbling dance music produced by the hottest artists around. 2009’s ‘Contact’ (3,000,000 views on YouTube), taken from their third album, saw them combine furious London-fuelled flows with Noisia’s crunching electro backbone – the start of what has become Foreign Beggars’ new obsession; fusing hip hop with dance music.

Since then Foreign Beggars have delivered a succession of incredible collaborations, while each release seems to bring greater success and critical acclaim; the incredible ‘Beggatron Remixed’ album which featured reworkings and originally produced tracks from Plastician, Bar9, Chasing Shadows, Noisia and more, the Beatport chart topping ‘Scatta’ with Skrillex, the anthem that is ‘Lines In Wax’ with Flux Pavilion and the recent team up with Vato Gonzalez ‘Badman Riddim’ out on Ministry Of Sound seeing Foreign Beggars finally cross over to the mainstream.

This year sees the Beggars releasing ‘The Harder They Fall’ EP, the first in a three part series on Never Say Die Records, produced by some of the most in-demand artists on the planet. Featuring six Foreign Beggars collaborations with Alix Perez, Mensah, Lazer Sword, Medison, Ruckspin, Black Sun Empire and Skrillex, their debut Never Say Die EP hits the 140bpm tempo straight between the eyes, offering a range of styles and flavours that could loosely be described as dubstep, without the superfluous connotations that the mere name of the genre now evokes.

Group History

Orifice Vulgatron and Dag Nabbit met in Dubai playing in metal, grunge and indie bands as early as 93. They later formed a group making hip hop in 96/97 and soon after started throwing DnB house parties and raves in sports halls and ballrooms. Dag Nabbit moved to Norway in 98, OV to London in 99, both continued to produce, promote and perform. The duo regrouped in London, setting up a studio and continued promoting, hitting pirate & internet stations, performing at raves such as Dekefex, Kung Fu, Rollercoaster, and the legendary Telepathy, whilst supporting and booking the likes of Andy C, Mampi Swift, DJ Craze, Skinnyman, Skibba, Shabba, Det, Ed Rush and Optical etc.

DJ Nonames met Metropolis at University in 2000. They soon joined hip hop and funk band Focused Few and began throwing warehouse parties and touring. OV was introduced to Nonames through DJ Gizroc, then part of the Mixologists Crew, whilst working on sound and lighting for a production of “The Wizard of Oz”, where Nonames was doing the entire sound with a Technics 1210, a Vestax 05 and a “Wizard of Oz” vinyl. By late 2002 OV and Dag Nabbit decided to release Foreign Beggars material on their own imprint Dented Records and started performing and recording alongside DJ Nonames, Metropolis and beatboxer Shlomo.

Noize! Crew
I&I, (All Out Dubstep)
Irk (All Out Dubstep, Nxt Lvl, Traffic)
Farkas (All Out Dubstep, Krater) Live

Marcus Price (Safe House Staff, SÅS-crew, Basutbudet)
Cristian Dinamarca (Top Billin, Kåken, F12, Spy Bar)

Gnucci Banana – LIVE

Jesaja & San One (Cirkus, Käleksklubben, Dream Team)
DJ Shirkhan (Safari Sound)
Akai One (Secret Wars, La Onda)

Oh, Baby – I Like It Raw
Love Bounce
Hanna Aah!
